Celtics Are Watching And Tracking Every Move

I’m not a huge stats guy, but not out of lack of respect for it. I’m just not that good at crunching numbers and I know my own limitations. What I do know, is that when used properly and when blended with traditional scouting and coaching, advanced statistics and analytics is absolutely the way of the future and in fact the present as well. Now there’s a new system called SportVU that (more…)

The Truth Hurts – Perhaps Pierce Should Sit

Paul Pierce should not play tonight and not until his bummed knee improves. He is hurt. He is ineffective. The Celtics are a better team without him on the floor. Paul Pierce continuing to play injured does nothing to help the Celtics this post-season. The only thing that can help this team is his rest, and rest he should for as long as it takes to make some serious improvements in his (more…)

A Random Rondo Goes, So Goes The Celtics

Don’t know why I never thought of this before, but I must say that the word “random” is about as good a word as you can get to describe Rajon Rondo’s game. Like a great jazz player jamming with his band, you never know what’s coming next and that’s part of what makes him so great. Of course the flipside is that sometimes that randomness comes out flat. Sometimes the band mates (more…)

BOSTON — The NBA fined Hawks owner Michael Gearon $35,000 for publicly criticizing NBA officiating and making negative comments about an opposing player, executive vice president of basketball operations Stu Jackson announced Saturday evening. Celtics-Hawks First Round Recap: Celtics Have an MVP in Garnett

The Celtics-Hawks series went according to plan for the most part . . . win at least one of the first two away games in Atlanta and then hold court at home to take the series in six games. That is the recipe the Celtics followed in 2010 when they didn’t have home-court advantage, but managed to beat the Cavs and the Magic to go into the Finals. But for the ATL (more…)

Iguodala Lacking Love Due To Lacking Jumper (Sound Familiar?)

The phrase “if he could only shoot” trails behind him everywhere he goes. Never mind the long list of talents that he does posses. He fills up a stat sheet as well as anyone playing his position, …except maybe that column under points (and truth be told he’s no slouch there either). As a bonus he brings excellent defense to the table as well. He’s burdened with expectations that he’s supposed to (more…)

"Inconsistent Rondo" Showed Up in Game 5, "All Star Rondo" Needed For Game 6

I think one of the best things to happen for Rajon Rondo in the second half ot this season was that he turned into a more consistent player. Each night, regardless if his shot was falling or not, he’d set up his teammates for 10 plus assists a game. Aside from getting tossed out of game 1 and having to miss game 2, he had played pretty well in the series. Then (more…)
