C’s want KG to be more aggressive

WALTHAM, Mass. — Celtics center Kevin Garnett admitted he wasn’t in a good rhythm in Friday’s Game 4 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers, but coach Doc Rivers still wants him to be more aggressive with the ball in this Eastern Conference semifinal series. Garnett finished 3-of-12 shooting with 9 points and 11 rebounds in Friday’s loss that evened the series at two games apiece, but that was a steep drop-off after starting (more…)

Random Rajon Rondo Set The Tone

Chris Webber made a comment that for much of the night it didn’t even seem like the Celtics were calling set plays. They were just getting the ball to Rondo and Kevin Garnett and going to work. That sounds to me like Doc let Rajon run the “random” set a lot more. Or perhaps Rondo was being more aggressive and efficient with it so Doc rode the hot streak. Either way, Rondo (more…)

Video: What’s Rondo thinking?

In the video above, Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo gives you a closer look into his mindset on the defensive side of the ball. “Most of my steals come out of anticipation, trying to disguise myself to make it seem like I’m not looking,” he says. “I don’t think you can teach it, I just think it’s something I’ve been blessed with. It’s one of my knacks for the game. Sometimes (more…)

Anatomy Of A Celtics Collapse

Apparently I’m completely to blame for the Celtics loss last night. You see, I jinxed them. These things are obviously real. So you better figure out what you were doing on Saturday and do that tomorrow. Then figure out what you were doing on Monday and definitely don’t do that. What did I do to jinx the team? Well, I wrote a quick post called Anatomy of a Sixers Collapse just hours (more…)

Doc Rivers Feelin’ The Small Ball Lineup

Don’t adjust your TV set, you are seeing a return to smallball. It’s not a big problem – BostonHerald.com Brandon Bass, Greg Stiemsma and Ryan Hollins — essentially their center/power forward rotation beyond Kevin Garnett — all remained on the bench in the fourth quarter. Instead, coach Doc Rivers played Paul Pierce [stats] at power forward next to Garnett and made all of his substitutions on the wings, with Mickael Pietrus and (more…)

Doc Rivers And His Veteran Celtics Have Good Timing

A coach’s job is very complex. The sheer number of factors that he’s in charge of is daunting. His duties include rotations, adjustments, matchups, play-calling, injuries, personalities (egos), and of course pestering refs. But one item that is sometimes overlooked is clock management. The margin of victory in these games is razor thin and a point or two either way obviously could mean the difference between winning and losing. I wanted to (more…)

It’s Not How You Start… (Celtics Come Back To Take Game 1)

I would like to hand the game ball to whoever found the time machine to use on Kevin Garnett. It is a joy to watch him right now. The Sixers got off to a fast start and the Celtics trailed by as much as 13 points in the first half. But the Celtics tightened up the defense and came all the way back to win the game. Rajon Rondo might have just (more…)
